Search

When your session grows, the quickest way to get somewhere is to search for it. One search covers every group, project, workspace and tab you have open.

  1. Click the search bar at the top left, the one that reads ⌕ search projects, workspaces, tabs. In the compact layout, click ⌕ at the right of the top bar.
  2. Type. The results replace the sidebar while you type, each with its place on the right: the group for a project in one, the project for a workspace, project › workspace for a tab.
  3. Click a result, or move with ↑ ↓ and press Enter. cornercase switches to that project, workspace or tab. A group expands and its first project becomes active.

Esc, clicking outside the results, or Enter with an empty query close the search. The query isn’t kept: the next search starts empty. You can paste into the search bar too.

Result Matched by
A group Its name. It shows with its icon.
A project Its name.
A workspace Its name and, when it has a name of its own, its branch too.
A tab Its name, and its workspace’s name and branch.

So typing a branch name finds the workspace on that branch and all the tabs inside it.

Matching ignores case. Results are ranked by how well they match: exact names first, then names that start with your text, then names that contain it. Among equally good matches, groups come first, then projects, workspaces and tabs, in the order they appear in the sidebar. The part of each name that matches is highlighted.

Sometimes you don’t remember the name, but what was said: which agent was talking about the checkout tax bug, or where that migration failed error showed up. Switch the search to in sessions and it looks in what was said, in every pane of every open project.

  1. Click the button at the right end of the search bar (❯), or press Tab while the search is open. The bar says what was said in agents and panes. With a prefix key, f s opens the search already in this mode. Tab or the button switch back to names.
  2. Type. Each result takes two lines: the matching line with your text in cyan, then who said it (claude · reply) and project › workspace › tab.
  3. Click a result, or move with ↑ ↓ and press Enter. cornercase shows that pane and scrolls to the match, with it selected. A press in the pane starts a new selection and clears it.

The search always opens in names; it doesn’t remember the mode, and the query isn’t kept.

Source What it finds
A coding agent’s record What you asked it (prompt) and what it answered (reply), whole, even once it scrolled off the screen. Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, opencode, Grok Build, Cursor CLI and GitHub Copilot CLI, the same records cornercase read --last-message reads. Tool output is not searched.
The pane itself (screen) Everything the pane printed, as far back as its scrollback goes, whatever runs in it: a shell, a build, a test run, an agent.

Matching ignores case, and a text a long line wrapped in two still matches. A line of the screen that an agent’s message already holds is listed once, as the message. Panes of projects being closed and workspaces being removed are left out.

Results come in the order of the sidebar: project by project, and in each pane an agent’s messages first, newest first, then its screen from the bottom up. At most 20 matches per pane and 300 in all are listed; the hint under the results says when some were left out.

The search runs in the background, so typing stays responsive even with long scrollbacks. While it runs the list says searching…, and pressing Enter meanwhile opens the first result once it arrives.

  • A pane running a full-screen program (an editor, less, an agent’s own full-screen view) is searched as it shows: while it is up, the shell’s earlier output is out of reach. Its agent’s record is still searched.
  • A reply an agent wrote is selected on the screen only when the pane still shows it; otherwise cornercase only takes you to the pane, and cornercase read --last-message reads the whole message.
  • A program that reads the mouse (some agents’ full-screen views) takes the pane back to the bottom, so the scroll to a match is lost there.

cornercase search TEXT prints the same matches, one per line with the pane’s id, and --json gives them as JSON, so a script or an agent can find the pane that dealt with something.
